Jacking Solutions
Some objects are too large, unstable or inaccessible to be moved by cranes. In such cases, jacking systems are the appropriate handling solution – and Energy Cranes have the experience to design and deliver them.
Our expertise in this field developed from having to jack up entire cranes atop tall pedestals in the wind-lashed offshore environment. More recently, the same design approaches have been used in a series of specialised situations on and offshore.
Lifting a Radio Telescope at Jodrell Bank
The challenge was to lift the entire telescope superstructure to allow maintenance to its rotating bearing.
The solution was a precision-designed ring of pressure-equalised hydraulic jacks capable not only of lifting the structure but of compensating for the destabilising effect of the wind.
Lifting a 2080-tonne Swing Bridge
The 84-metre long Myton dual carriageway Swing Bridge needed to be lifted clear of it’s bearing to allow remachining of the supporting slew bearing.
Sparrows engineers designed and built 4 x 1000 tonne capacity jacks capable not only of supporting the weight but of being deployed in the confined space under the bridge. Sparrows machinists then refurbished the bearing before reinstallation of the bridge deck.
Wherever jacking solutions can overcome weight, stability or confined space problems, Energy Cranes are equipped to develop solutions.
